Maximum Period of Grant Assistance – studying outside the state

Undergraduate Level

  • Maximum 4 years funding at undergrad level 8 (except where normal duration of course exceeds 4 years)
  • Maximum 4 years funding in total at Undergrad level 6 and 7
  • Maximum 3 years funding at Undergrad level 7
  • Maximum 2 years funding at Undergrad level 6

Max 4 years in total at level 6 and 7 subject to;
2 years at Level 6
3 years at Level 7

4 years maximum except for courses where the normal duration is more than 4 years

Postgraduate Level

The only grant funding available to students for Postgraduate study outside the state is for courses in four approved institutions in Northern Ireland.

The approved institutions, and the approved courses available therein, are as follows:
Queen’s University, Belfast – full-time Postgraduate courses of not less than one year duration
University of Ulster – full-time Postgraduate courses of not less than one year duration
St. Mary’s College of Education, Belfast – Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Irish Medium)
Stranmillis College, Belfast – Postgraduate Certificate in Education

  • Maximum 4 years funding in total at Postgrad level
  • All previous attendance and attainment at Postgrad level are considered regardless of whether a grant was received previously or not.
