SUSI (Student Universal Support Ireland) is Ireland’s single national awarding authority for all higher and further education grants. We began processing in 2012, replacing the sixty-six local awarding authorities who had previously processed student grant applications.
We are currently in our fifth year of applications – the online application system for new and renewal grant applications for the 2016/2017 academic year opened on Tuesday 5 April, 2016. Last year we processed more than 108,000 applications with in excess of 83,000 students (new and renewal) receiving funding for the 2015/2016 academic year. We are expecting to receive more than 110,000 applications for the 2016/2017 academic year.
SUSI offers funding to eligible students in approved full-time third-level education in Ireland and also, in some cases, funding for students studying outside the State. We offer support to all types of students, from school leavers to mature students returning to education.
We process applications under the criteria set out in the Student Support Act 2011, the Student Support Regulations and the Student Grant Scheme – the legislation can be found in our “Resources” page.
